i've a compaq presario, with window's vista. this morning i got a new wireless router through windstream and it's hooked up to my laptop fine, the problem is this: it detects the wireless service, yet tells me i only have local service, not internet. i've tried connecting with my firewall down, but to no avail. i've tried diagnosing the problem, and cant come up with any solutions. i've had wireless service on this laptop before, and dont understand what's going on. if anyone could help me i'd greatly apprieate it.

Well if it says it can detect your router that's good. Make sure that your wireless router has it's connection to the internet as well. Do you have any other details? And have you tried repairing your network connection?

To repair your network connection. (If that's the problem)

1. Turn off the router and modem (some are built together in one unit).
2. Turn off your wireless connection or disable it.
3. Wait about 10 seconds, and then start up only the modem and router.
4. Once the modem and router are fully powered up and ready, then turn your wireless back on.
5. Look at your wireless icon down in your system tray (toolbar bottom right hand side). Right-click on your wireless connection and click "Repair". This should only take a few seconds, and then a pop-up window will inform you whether or not your are connected to the internet.

Tell me if this does any good for you, if it doesn't or you have any other details please inform me of them.
