As a general policy, do you as a forum, recommend registry cleaners? Or do they cause more problems than they solve?

I use Windows Live OneCare which I trust because it was designed by Microsoft to work with XP. However Uniblue Reg Boost2 (Gold Certified Microsoft Partner) finds about a hundred more entries to clean. But there seems to always be a risk, post scan, of instability. I have never had issues with Microsoft's OneCare, except when using it with Win2k on my laptop. It does always make system restore point, under XP, to go back if there is any undesirable side affects.

Are there any performance gains? I now have much upgraded hardware, so do not need to quick fix an ancient set up like I once did, & when I go twin core, even less so.
