Did a XP reinstall, system worked for two days now it won’t boot or get into CMOS settings. I replaced the battery with a new one.

What would be the most likely reason?

Abit KT7A-raid
AMD 850 athlone
Quantum hard drives
single stick of 512MB ram

I know top of the line lol but it’s faster then my DELL 1.5GHz laptop

Did you replace the battery properly?

How far does booting get?

Any error messages?

Disk space...total and free?

Have an MS XP CD?

Backed up recently?

Louis

didn't know there was a proper procedure to changing the battery, it worked with a dead battery then two days after replacing it.

"it won't boot or get into CMOS settings"

meaning it won't boot any further then when you have the option to press delete for CMOS settings.

The battery is polar sensitive, meaning that it has a positive (+) side and a negative (-) side and can be put in backwards. The + should be facing up.
