BleepingComputer.com: Trying to download Malwarebytes

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but please move it to the proper place if it isn't.

I'm trying to download Malwarebytes just for more protection purposes since I sometimes get a little paranoid these days.

The issue is that I can't seem to download it properly since an error message keeps popping up.

Here's the exact message:



D:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll

Unable to register the DLL/OCX: CreateProcess failed; code 2.
The system cannot find the file specified.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to proceed anyway (not recommended), or Abort to cancel the installation.


Then there are three options below the above text.

I've tried to Retry the download, but the error pops back up again instantly, and I'm also hesitant about ignoring it. So...I just end up aborting it.

I think I've tried at least 7 times to download it (both to the C and D drives), but the same error pops up.

Can someone help?

It would be helpful to know what your operating system is: Windows XP, Vista, etc.

Whoops. Didn't see this one for some reason....(then again, it was late at night when I was posting).

I'll just list what I know about my computer just in case. If it was unneeded information, excuse me. I'm just trying to be thorough ^^.

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D820 with 1 gig of ram running and about 65-70 gigs of harddrive space. Virus/Malware protection is Norton Antivirus and Spybot Search and Destroy. If I need anything else, I'll try to post ASAP.

What link are you using to download from? Uninstall Mbam and try this one:

I actually got it fixed quite a while ago. I was apparently missing my Regsvr32...not sure why I lost it though (maybe from the amvo worm attack our campus had??? But then again.....). Got it back into here, though

That's not an uncommon error for MBAM but glad to hear you sorted it out. What about your malware issues?

The amvo worm or something else completely?

If the former, that was somewhere around a year ago, so there's no worries on it as it was contained.

...okay...this has been bugging me since my lurking days here.....(speaking of which, I should change my sig a bit....)

What does it mean by gaming sites? Sites like Newgrounds.com sort or something else completely? The only gaming I do on here is Starcraft....and that's offline and rarely done (only when I'm bored) and against NPC's.

The rest of those I know of (actually, underground websites is another one of those weird ones, but I get the idea).

Another question as well.....

.....what does smörgåsbord mean exactly ? Is that German for something like a crapload of stuff?
