HI all,
"search" doesn't work. It opens like usual, but will not perform.
I will scan for viruses, but don't recall having any recently.
Thanks for looking, Coyote

OK, let me clarify.
I can not perform a "search" for files "named" or "containing" from the start menu. The page opens like usual, but when I click "search now" nothing happens.
What I meant by viruses is, although I have had some in the past, I don't believe I have any now.
My operating system is Windows ME , AVG free anti virus, Outpost firewall on a Compaq Presario
Thanks, Coyote

lets see if any infection might be lurking
please try a scan with superantispyware with is compatible with your OS
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=959604
you may wish to print the instructions as they will not be accessible for/to you while you are in safe mode
please post the scan result so we can see what may be amiss
Are you running avg antivirus 7.5 version or the newer avg 8.0 version?

Ran superantispyware
The only things it found were a harmless cookie and igloader.dll in C:\windows.000\system\
igloader has been there since 2006 (or at least thats what it says)
Could it be corrupted? Is it needed?
Also "Spybot search and destroy" found "related" in C:\windows.000\web. but that seems to be a legitimate file, been there since 2002, or could it be corrupted?
For some reason after running superantispyware my internet connection was lost. Had to unplug the modem completely and start it up again including logon and password.
Anyway thanks for looking, Coyote

From what appears the path of your Windows folder (C:\Windows.000) you have installed Windows on a hard disk with exisiting C:\Windows folder. Thats not a desired situation usually.
Anyway, since you are running Windows Me, you may want run System Restore to a point when Search was running good.
