hi people i have a adven laptop but she i boot it up just goes onto a screen with a flashing dash line in corner of screen

Go into your BIOS and verify that the hard drive is listed as the first boot device. If it is, it sounds like your mbr is corrupt, or your hard drive is damaged
I'm still learning Vista, not quite sure if fixmbr is the same or not. Give yhis a look:

hey, tried that but no luck, my laptop will switch on gets past the screen where you can go in bios ect and thats it i get the flashing dash line in corner

How long have you had this computer?

Did this problem just start?

Have you left the computer alone with the black screen and blinking dash line to see if it will load up, eventually?

We need more information for 'trouble shooting, than what you've given :huh:

hi, the lap is just over a year old, iv left it load up nothing happens, yes the problem has just started i shut it down one day and it just came on like the way its doing now, its a advent laptop 100gb hardrive 2.0 ghz
