So the company I work for has taken 30 laptop screens off and attached the laptops to a rollaway cart that is equipped with a external screen. The internal wireless card is still installed and they have taken the internal antenna and zip tied it up the new monitor about 8 inches high and then the factory screen width across. My question is that these where attached to the internal monitor with screws that appear to have been grounded. The wireless signal drops out constantly even when you are under the access points. do these antenna's need to be grounded or something special need to be done to them? It is a dell lat d610. using an internal intel wireless card. Any tips on improving the wireless signal would be greatly appreciated.

The most frequent reason why an exposed wireless access point such as this would drop signal randomly would be that another device in the area is using the same 2.4 gHz frequency that the wireless signal is using. Check to make sure any cordless telephones are not near the computers at all, or any other wireless devices that may interfere. If not, this may be a grounding problem as you have suggested.
