Hi,

I'm having some problems re-installing Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.
I put in the cd rom after a re-start and I let Windows start to load the files, after it is done loading it says I have some sort of device failure. It says it could be something to do with a usb, hard drive, or a dvd/cd rom failure. Something along the lines of that. It gives me the option of continuing or exiting. I don't see how it could be a failure of my dvd/cd rom since it booted up the actual Vista cd and has gotten me that far. Hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks.

First, disconnect all USB/other external devices before installing Vista. You can leave the monitor, mouse and keyboard plugged in - everything else must be disconnected.

Try a bootable hard drive diagnostic fromt the manufacturer of your hard drive. Here's a topic that contains links to the most common one's: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html

The CD/DVD drive can have errors that are correctable most times - but still can have errors that can't be fixed. This isn't as likely as the other problems - so I'd try this after trying the other two things above. Can also be caused by a scratched/dirty disk.
