BleepingComputer.com: I Am Administrator But I Can't Access Files On Vista

Hi,

I am using Vista Home Basic. Vista is frustrating me. I feel desperately lost.

SSBkgdUpdate starts when Vista starts. User Control Account blocks it EVERYTIME. Its very annoying as I have to unblock it manually EVERYTIME.

I read on bleepingcomputer StartUp List that it is unnecessary to run this program automatically when Windows starts as you can run it manually when necessary. So I downloaded Autoruns and tried to remove it from the Startup List.

Guess what?! I wasn't allowed access! I am the Administrator and the only User on this Notebook and I am not allowed access!

This NOT ALLOWED ACCESS issue is frustratingly bothersome as it has come up a number of occassions when I tried to access other files and programs.

Please. Could someone kindly tell me how I can get Vista to let me have access to EVERYTHING without compromising security.

Have you tried using msconfig?

start menu=>run=>msconfig

Click the startup tab and remove the offending entry by clearing the check box. click apply and restart.

I don't recommend the use of msconfig - as it is designed as a troubleshooting tool and not a permanent fix. Autoruns works just fine in Vista on all the machines that I've tried it on. To ensure that it's operating correctly, you'll have to right click on the launcher and select "Run as administrator" in order to get it to work.

Another option is to go into the program settings for your ScanSoft software and locate the switch to turn it off there.

I uninstall and reinstall Autoruns.
Now it is working fine.
I also remove SSBhgdUpdate from Start Up.
