Please keep in mind when you are reading this, I hardly know my way around computer.
I bought a WD external hard drive for one reason, to back up my computer.
This is what I would like to do, I want back up my computer.
1) what files would I want to back up??? ----I have no pictures, movies or music on this computer.
2) I would a back up program that is easy to understand.
3) I am wanting to back up the important files because I don't have a resource cd, I got those
cd's that DELL sends with your pc. So like I can't really do a clean install because of those.
4) I guess I what I am saying if my computer crashes or gets a serious virus, I just want to be able to
reload my info from the external HD after I clean up the problem with my pc.
thank you in advance...

Personally, I use the paid Acronis True Image to back up my total 320GB C: drive to a 500GB Ext USB hard drive, but there are many ways to back up whatever you wish.

Check out some of these -

I would second Acronis True Image.

Disk-imaging software gives you an exact copy of every file on your system, data...Windows...and programs installed.
