Hello,
Recently I needed to reinstall my computer because of a Trojan.
I then downloaded all the drivers I thought I needed from Gateway's website, including my audio driver. After installation, everything seemed to be OK, but after running dxdiag, it tells me that there is no sound card detected and to install the driver that came with the hardware. I thought that was the sound driver that I downloaded and installed from Gateway.
Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong? The tech support from Gateway more or less refused to help me becuase my warrenty ran out.
I have a Gateway GT4022 with Window XP operating system.
The audio driver I downloaded was: realtek AC'97 5.10.0.5990 Part Number: D00542-001-001

I appreciated all the help I received when I was dealing with that rotten Trojan. Any other help for this problem would be shiny!

Mahalo much!

The audio is integrated on your motherboard, there isn't a dedicated audio card. If you are concerned look in the Device Manager and see if there are any errors (red X) or warnings (yellow question mark), if there aren't and your computer is working properly I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, that is my problem. I have no sound.
I don't have any red errors on my device manager, and the only yellow question marks are for the PCI controler and and PCI simple communications controller (that is a another question in itself).
I just realized that when I did the reformat and reinstall I accidently used my Gateway 610 dvd and it installed windows xp media center 2004, but my Gateway GT4022 is supposed to have windows xp media center 2005.
Could this be the reason my audio driver will not install?

Also, when I go into "sound, speech and audio devices" it tells me that I do not have an audio device.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi Nightspear,
Thanks for your reply, unfortunately your link was not working. But for the good news I resolved my issue. It seems that Gateway posted the wrong audio driver on its website for my computer. I found out who the manufacturer was for my motherboard, went to their website and downloaded the correct audio driver for my motherboard, everything works just fine now. Gateway posted a Realtek 97 audio driver, when they should have posted a Realtek HD audio driver.
Big Mahalo for the interest and help shown to me!

Good to hear that you resolved the issue. My link was to my post about how I resolved my audio issue. If you want to take a look or for future reference here is the link again.
