Strange Error While Installing A Program.

Hello everyone, hopefully here I can get assistance with my little dilemma...

Okay, so this is my first pc with Windows Vista. While installing one of my graphics programs, I got a strange error about halfway through installing.

Quote

Error opening the file for writing: C:\Windows\System32\libeay32.dll

Now, I checked the System32 folder and the dll file is there- it's not "Read Only". Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Have you checked to ensure the program is current and compatible with windows VISTA.

It would help if we knew the programs details - version, etc.

Have you checked for an update/upgrade?

The only easy day was yesterday.

The file could have been damaged when it was installed initially. You could also try installing the program as an administrator. That DLL is not a Vista component and helps with network communications with some programs.

@ DJBPace07- Hmmm... not a Vista component? That could pose a problem...

Perhaps setting up a Windows XP partition would help?

@ KoanYorel- Upon further investigation- I've found that this program hasn't been tested on Vista. Nothing about being incompatible though...

IF not tested or checked out - it's probably not fully compatible with VISTA, or has problems.

With out telling us what program and version you are talking about, there's not much we can do to help.

I'm trying to install Massive Prime 3.0.3

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

I have not updated Vista yet.

What exactly is libeay32.dll used for anyway?

Massive Prime does not appear compatible ATT with VISTA.

From what I can tell, some opensource programs use it for SSL communications. What exactly are you trying to install?

@ KoanYorel- Hmm- looks like I may have to pull my old XP computer out of mothballs and clean it up a little bit and install on there... unless I just do an XP partition...

Massive Prime does not have a Vista version. From what I can tell, if that DLL could be opened, the program should run normally. Remember, Massive Prime is designed to run on powerful workstations. The vast majority of such PC's don't run Vista, therefore a fully compatible version might be a while off, especially since it is not a consumer product. On a more positive note, it will run on Red Hat and Fedora. You could dual boot Vista and either Linux distro, or you could just reuse your XP machine.
