QUOTE(cowsgonemadd3 @ Aug 3 2004, 05:23 PM) Ok so i can post in this one? Post in Windows forum just not in this post! If someone ask a question try and answer it. Just not in this particular post. Example phwagg has a queston so he would prss new topic and ask the question you would try to help him as best you can. |

QUOTE(cowsgonemadd3 @ Aug 3 2004, 03:58 PM) Thats is a good one. I will do some research for you. There also might be a conflict going on but let me check up on it. Does he have both hd,s connected to the same cable with something like a splitter? If so why not disconnect one after the power is off and try to just use one to get it to load. This might help. That will tell if its a program prob. How does he switch between the both of them. Does he have one of those trios plus multi drive selector things. Did he just start using 2 drives? If both drives are being used on a splitter and not by a program then this could be thr problem. You need an extender "splitter" to connect to hard drives you want the bothe hd's to work off of one molex |

QUOTE(JEservices @ Aug 3 2004, 04:40 PM) ... but here is the strangest thing of all: When I try either HD as a slave with a working HD, it doesn't see it at all. Any suggestions? At the risk of raising the mods' ire: Assuming the drives are properly configured in the BIOS, this sounds reminiscent of disk overlay software (DiskGo!, MaxBlast, etc.). Would you know if any such are present? -------------------- 'Newbie'?? In a pig's ear!

Nothing wrong with continuing answering the questions in this thread. Please thugh if anyone wants to attempt to stump cg or ask any other tech support question for the general responders to answers, please post it in the appropriate forums and with a new topic per question. Otherwise this can get very very very confusing for everyone working on the problems and reading the threads.
Of course there is nothing wrong with a thread going on a tangent, I just dont want 20 different questions in one thread Thanks to whoever moved it here -------------------- Lawrence

Grinler, I propose a compromise, that I think will satisfy all parties invovled. How about for every question, we start a new thread, but as the topic description, we have it as 'stump the Cow'?
I am understand that you would not want many different questions to be in the same thread. It does make more sence to have each one seperately-it would keep it (boards) more organized. I would like them to be 'linked' just as words with 'stump the Cow', so that other posters do know that even though they are real problems, they are also very advanced problems. -------------------- We are all curious like a cat. On that computer, his cables had it to where he can have both HDs plugged in (ribbon and power). The same problems are there, weather both drives are installed, in either order, or seperately.
I tried to do a command line for devices, but it would not take. I even went so far as doing it in the autoexec.bat, and running it as a batch file, but it also did not work. The error was something about file not found, but I do not remember the exact wording. I was under the impression that it was using the commands only found on the boot disk (in the case of 98), but I could not remember how to change it use the command from the HD. I could not find any evidence of a disk overlay software. I did confirm from BIOS that it does read the 98 HD properly, when compared to size. As far as being able to do any suggestions right away, I really can't. It will be at least 3-4 days before I can go back over there, due to work schedule. I do like different ideas and suggestions, and appreciate all help offered. -------------------- We are all curious like a cat. We wonder, we ask, we learn.

I am sorry for my absence. I have had quite a busy work week-working 15-16 hours a day. After being gone for that amount of time, I did not get on my computer very often.
I do not have any new information about this problem, but I may have some time to go over there tomorrow (Sunday), to try a few things out. Also, any additional 'Stump the Cow' questions will be presented in its appropriate forum w/ the topic description as 'Stump the Cow', as agreed. Now, some problems my not necessarily be my own though, but you can guarantee that they will be unusual and difficult. -------------------- We are all curious like a cat. We wonder, we ask, we learn.

LOl thats fine! Heres something to look for:
You should check the jumpers on both drives as the new one may have to be set to master with a slave drive. Also how are these drives hooked up? Are they master and slave on the same ide port?Is your bios set to auto for detecting the drives upon boot? Can you post what brand and model number the drives are? Also what brand and model is your motherboard? Is it an ATA100 capable board and drives, If so are you using the 80 wire ide cable? These ide cables have to be connected the right wayWhat is the model number of the drive? When you boot up, The first screen you see hit pause on the keyboard. There will be a string of numbers on the bottom left of the screen. Something like XXXX-XXXX-2A59L Or 51-0105-XXXX-XXXX Write these down exactly as you see them and post it here. I dont expect you to answer all them but please do if you can. Id like to at least know the model number and name of both drives. |
