This is one of the most annoying things about a 64 bit operating system.

I'm sortof a neat freak about my pc to make things clean and easy to get to.

I was wondering if it was possible for me to reinstall vista 64, DELETE the program files(x86) folder, and make the default program files install directory "C:\Program Files".

If i can do this without reinstalling, then great but its nice to have my registry all in order too.

I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate X64 SP1

Thanks

P.S.

I already checked google. Mabye i didn't look hard enough?

They system is set up to look for 64 bit compatible programs in the Program Files directory - and 32 bit compatible programs in the Program Files (x86) directory. I suppose that you could force the installers to use the Program Files directory - but it'll require reinstalling each and every 32 bit program that you're using (and depends on the program giving you the choice of where to install it).

As for making it the default - I don't even know if that's possible - and don't know if it would have adverse effects on the wow64 launcher for 32 bit apps.
