System manufacturer and model?
Actually...I think that USB controllers all use the same driver, which should be available in XP's store of drivers.
Have you rebooted the system to see if XP will install them?

Maybe the drivers on the CD that came with your device were not in the format WIndows searches for. Usually, the drivers for Mass storage device(my experience) come in an installer format (.exe). So look for the driver installer on the CD.
I wonder, you do not know the manufactuter of the mass storage device? If its USB/Bluetooth connected you should know. Else have a peek inside your computer.
Tip: download Everest or SiSoft Sandra, they will tell you about which devices are connected to your computer and their manufacturer and model.
