My son has a Dell Dimension C521 and the internal DVD drive (TSSTcorp CDRW DVD TS-H493A) has locked itself to one region , how do I unlock it?

Go into the Device Manager, click on the + to the left of the DVD/CD-ROM to expand the tree, double click on the drive, click on the Regional tab, click on the region that you want, click on OK.

Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Device Manager.

Thanks....BUT.....the properties tab will not allow any further changes...each time a dvd was played it automatically changed the zone to suit the dvd

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as far as I am aware, there are only a very limited number of times (4 or 5) you can change regions on a drive. After that it is just a hunk of scrap metal.

Hope someone else may have better news for you.

The attached picture you post is the same as I have, I think that you are right, I have a scrap player. -- - - The next posting takes me to driver updates not multi-region options

It might help if you could find a 3rd party firmware to make it multiregional. After a quick search, I didn't find any. It might be a Dell only part number. The possibility might be to crossflash the drive with another firmware. Find out the OEM (I think Samsung), and look for firmware to a drive that matches the specs of your drive and try a firmware flash. Cannot hurt at this point.

DVD burners are cheap now. You can find one shipped for under $30, put it in and go from there.
