Been meaning to ask?

How can this be the same as the next one to the same thing?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=933522

It is a little confusing?

Seperately they supply the Link but together there seems a Conflict?

:flowers:

Not sure what your asking, Abacus 7.
I get a 404 ERROR: Page Not Found!, when clicking your links.

That is what I am talking about?

If you scroll back to My Link me for and also Ruby 1's Link it is to the same Thread? Yet both are different? Put them togther, and it is an Error Message?

Yet Both the Previous Links work? That is quite Odd?

That is what make me Curious?

Just as a Test?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

Go to Post 13 of this Thread?

It works there, same if you look up Ruby 1's Post 15???????

Could it be a form of Malware?

I am not sure to what you linked but from my trying I cannot link any of these to anywhere?

Can you maybe experiment with linking?

how exactly are you trying to do the links?

"Houstan, we seem to have a Problem?"

tg1911 already explained why they don't work - they are incomplete. Now I'm going to make an educated guess about how those links came to be incomplete.

Did you copy and paste the link from the topic without using the quote function? If so, you copied an incomplete link. The three dots . . . indicate that something has been left out.

In order to get the full link path, you either need to quote the post using the quote feature or right click on the link in order to copy the full link path. In Firefox, you would choose "Copy link location" in the menu that pops up. Another option would be to click on the link, wait for the new tab or window to open and copy and paste the link from the address bar.

Do you mean to say that the Link I Posted is not Visable to Members?

You really are trying to Confuse me now?

I can see it, maybe my Computer is out of Whack?

Can you see what I meant from the Link?

It says this

Quote

The important thing to do right now is to unplug the hard drive and do not use it until you have decided what course of action you're going to take. The less it is overwritten, the better your chances are for recovery

I believe a Moderator said that?

No, I am not trying to confuse you.

I don't see, however, what this:

Quote

has to do with links.

Perhaps pictures will help.

If you copy and paste a link directly from a post without using the quote function, frequently they will not work because the link as shown on the screen is incomplete.

Posted Image

In the picture above, I have drawn an arrow to the truncated part of the link.

If I copy and paste that:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

it won't work. As you can see when I paste it here without the code boxes:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

You get an error, right?

Now, if I use the quote function, I get this:

Posted Image

This link is complete and will go to where it should:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic167238.html#entry950334

Here is the link without the code box:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

Even though the links LOOK identical in the final post, the underlying code is different because one has the full link and the other does not. If the link is incomplete, you will get an error message.

Let's try this:

I used my Edit function to copy your post (#3 above), exactly as you wrote it, before posting.
Been meaning to ask?

How can this be the same as the next one to the same thing?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=933522

It is a little confusing?

Seperately they supply the Link but together there seems a Conflict?

These are the links you posted, and the text that will be displayed.
Using the first one as an example:
url=http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334

The 3 red dots are the part of the URL that's the problem.
That is an invalid URL.
Broken.
No Good.
There's nothing wrong with your computer.
You're the one that posted the wrong URL.

It should have read like this:
url=http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic167238.html#entry950334

Notice, no dots.
That is a complete, valid URL.

Carefully re-read everything we've posted.
It's all explained.

I have linked from where your link took me; which is NOT the windows 95/98/M.E. section http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=950231

THAT section is on THIS link

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum9.html

Try linking to the very first section on the forum

Occurs to me; do you have more than ONE browser page open at a time ? You will need at least TWO open to get the right links to get the connections to work, one page with this thread on it and another with the page you wish to link from on it

To open a new browser page just press CTRL and N together and a new window should open
