That link doesn't work.

In Post#16 it looks like you just copy/pasted the URLs displayed on the page, in Post's 13, and 15.
Those are incomplete URLs.
The board shortens long URLs, so the displayed URL is not the same as the actual URL.
Notice the "..." in the displayed URLs.
This makes them incomplete URLs, which causes the board error.

If you would have right-clicked the URL, and selected "copy URL location" (or something similar, depending on the browser you use), it would have given you the whole URL, instead of a truncated version.

The URL you posted in Post #16, compared to the actual URL:

The crazy part of this is both? Not sure about Ruby 1, were Posted by Copy and Paste as is Normal for busy people. Both worked until they both came together on one Page? That is quite unusual, each was to the same Thread, worked individually, yet they have a different Code,yet together it is an Error for each one?

It looks like ruby1 linked direcly to the first post.
To the top right of each post, there is the post #, which is a link.
The number is a link to that post.
By copy/pasteing that URL into a post, you can direct someone to a particular post, in a topic.

I have split your posts and tg1911's responses concerning how links work from the Tidiness thread to its own topic. This is to keep the Tidiness thread tidy and so other folks with the same question may find a solution here. For the purposes of context, I have kept the original links that have triggered your question.

Let's see if I can answer your question.

There are several ways to link to a topic.

Here is the link to the full topic from the top of the page:

Ruby1's link was specifically for post 1 of that topic:

Look at the code in the box above. Do you see the number right after showtopic= That number is 167238. Notice that is the same as the number in the first link I posted here.

Now look at the code for the link you posted:

The structure of the link is a bit different; however, notice the number directly after the word "topic". It is the same as in the previous two links. All three links go to the same topic as indicated by the topic number.

Now, here are the differences. My link contains no entry number. ruby1's and yours do.

ruby1's link to post number 1 has an entry number of 933522. You can see that right after the word "entry" at the end of the link.

Your link to post 3 of the topic has a different entry number, 950334, as seen at the end of your link after the word "entry".

With ruby1's link, you go right to the top of post one, you don't see any of the forum stuff above it without scrolling. With your link, you go directly to post 3, and you don't see any of the topic above it without scrolling.

also; goto the top right corner of any posting and you will see the words 'post' and a number? hover the mouse over it to see the words 'show a link to this post '

I have been having posting links using the code tags for 2 months. Another HJT team member had the same problem as I do and we still can't figure out the problem

Honestly, Orange Blossom,

If one clicks on either of the two individual Links they work, yet click on either one together next down, neither one works?

That just does not Compute, no way it should happen.
