How can this be the same as the next one to the same thing?
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=933522
It is a little confusing?
Seperately they supply the Link but together there seems a Conflict?

Not sure what your asking, Abacus 7.
I get a 404 ERROR: Page Not Found!, when clicking your links.

That is what I am talking about?
If you scroll back to My Link me for and also Ruby 1's Link it is to the same Thread? Yet both are different? Put them togther, and it is an Error Message?
Yet Both the Previous Links work? That is quite Odd?
That is what make me Curious?
Just as a Test?
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334
Go to Post 13 of this Thread?
It works there, same if you look up Ruby 1's Post 15???????
Could it be a form of Malware?

In Post#16 it looks like you just copy/pasted the URLs displayed on the page, in Post's 13, and 15.
Those are incomplete URLs.
The board shortens long URLs, so the displayed URL is not the same as the actual URL.
Notice the "..." in the displayed URLs.
This makes them incomplete URLs, which causes the board error.
If you would have right-clicked the URL, and selected "copy URL location" (or something similar, depending on the browser you use), it would have given you the whole URL, instead of a truncated version.
The URL you posted in Post #16, compared to the actual URL:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=933522 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=167238&view=findpost&p=933522 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry950334 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic167238.html#entry950334The second ones would redirect you to the correct link.
The first ones will cause 404 Error's.

Hmm? OK.
But why are the links to the same Post Different?
I have noticed it several times?
Is there different ways to Post a Link?
I would love to know how to do that.
The crazy part of this is both? Not sure about Ruby 1, were Posted by Copy and Paste as is Normal for busy people. Both worked until they both came together on one Page? That is quite unusual, each was to the same Thread, worked individually, yet they have a different Code, yet together it is an Error for each one?

To the top right of each post, there is the post #, which is a link.
The number is a link to that post.
By copy/pasteing that URL into a post, you can direct someone to a particular post, in a topic.
Quote
Like I said in my last post, you didn't use valid URLs.
That's why the links didn't work.
Thanks, dc3.
Topic has been moved.

But why do the links from 13 and 15 still work seperately to this? Yet together they don't?

I have split your posts and tg1911's responses concerning how links work from the Tidiness thread to its own topic. This is to keep the Tidiness thread tidy and so other folks with the same question may find a solution here.
Let's see if I can answer your question.
There are several ways to link to a topic.
Here is the link to the full topic from the top of the page:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic167238.html
Ruby1's link was specifically for post 1 of that topic:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=167238&st=0&p=933522&#entry933522
Look at the code in the box above. Do you see the number right after showtopic= That number is 167238. Notice that is the same as the number in the first link I posted here.
Now look at the code for the link you posted:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic167238.html#entry950334
The structure of the link is a bit different; however, notice the number directly after the word "topic". It is the same as in the previous two links. All three links go to the same topic as indicated by the topic number.
Now, here are the differences. My link contains no entry number. ruby1's and yours do.
ruby1's link to post number 1 has an entry number of 933522. You can see that right after the word "entry" at the end of the link.
Your link to post 3 of the topic has a different entry number, 950334, as seen at the end of your link after the word "entry".
With ruby1's link, you go right to the top of post one, you don't see any of the forum stuff above it without scrolling. With your link, you go directly to post 3, and you don't see any of the topic above it without scrolling.
Does this answer your question?

Let me show you what I did
this link http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic170429.html
should go direct to this topic thread in the forum
and THIS one
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=950444
shoudl link you to post number three IN this thread
the ability to directly link to a specific post in a thread is a 'tool' I recently came across quite by accident ...so used
does that help...
also; goto the top right corner of any posting and you will see the words 'post' and a number? hover the mouse over it to see the words 'show a link to this post '
Maybe try it in the Test area or on this thread?

He not understanding that the links he posted in Post #3 are invalid URLs.
Them coming together has nothing to do with them not working.
Like I said in post #6, you didn't use valid URLs.
The links you provided were, no good.
That's why the links didn't work.

Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits

If one clicks on either of the two individual Links they work, yet click on either one together next down, neither one works?
That just does not Compute, no way it should happen.
Never ever saw this before!
