Before I had a Pentium 4 2.0 Mhz Processor I was able to install UBUNTU without any problems at all. But I upgraded my Motherboard to Core 2 Duo Processor and ever since I really was not able to install the OS without having any problem. The problems i encountered was it crashed my existing Windows XP OS and the partition got so messed up. I tried refromatting the HD and reinstall my XP back and I did not install UBUNTU 7.0 since I am afraid that it would mess up my PC again. What can you suggest for me to do to be able to install this properly. I have the free CD installation with me and I really want it to use and learn from it. Also I read in one forum the UBUNTU is not yet compatible with Core 2 Duo processors, is that true?

Don't know about the core 2 duo processors???

I'm replying to your post with a Pentium dual-core E2180 processor using Ubuntu 8.04 OS.

Regards

Jim

Id suggest getting a more recent version of Ubuntu, you can try it out via LiveCD first before you install it.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I see so do you think I should get the latest version of the OS since I have with me the ver 7.0. I am having hard time downloading the latest version of the UBUNTU right now.

Have you tried the various mirrors? Also what error messages do you get?

I would.

If you can't download it, you can order the live cd from Canonical, Free!!.

I don't exactly remember how I went about downloading Ubuntu 8.04, it's been a few months ago. I followed the instructions from the Ubuntu web site and also had to download and use Infrarecorder.

If you don't want to wait the 2-3 weeks for a live cd from Canonical, I have some Xtra copies of Ubuntu & Kubuntu 8.04 I'll send you if you're in the US.

Regards

Jim

Well the mirror sites are either too slow to download and some do complete but I haven't had one good download most have corrupt files and everything.

Infrarecorder is easy to use. I didn't have any issues with it.
