Usb Drive Vulnerability

Sorry, the title should read "USB Port Vulnerability"

Can the USB port itself be infected by a virus, trojan, etc.?

For example:

My C drive is my main hardware.
My D drive is my CD-ROM.
My E drive is my storage hardware.
So my F drive is to plug in the USB. Can this drive itself be infected so that every time I plug in a pen drive, the pen drive gets infected?

The USB ports only transfer data and power, it has no capacity to store data, so no. I would look at the hard drives and flash drives for infections.
