My screensaver worked fine until a couple of days ago, but now does not come on anymore. The display still turns off after the set time as normal.

Does anyone have any ideas about this, please?

*ETA* I don't know if this is relevant, but the night before this problem occured I had installed Spybot, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and OpenOffice on the computer, and also turned on Windows Defender and carried out disk defragmentation.

Was this a "Vista" screensaver or one that you downloaded? Is Spybot's Teatimer enabled?

It is a Vista screensaver. Teatimer is not enabled.
