Re-install Window Vista? can we re-install window vista without loosing data??

Hi

I am having problem with windows explorer it closes down and re startes on its own when ever I try to uninstall any program.
so I want to find a solution for this

Do you have an original Windows CD or the repair disk that came with the computer?
What it the make and model of the computer?
