I Am Connected But Keep Getting Message That I Am Not

When I try to download flash player or load rhapsody, I get a message saying I need to be connected to the internet. I am able to load internet explorer and browse the web. I had installed earthlink total access and computer got totally squirlley, I uninstalled it and now it is better but still messed up. Any suggestions?

Do you have any other active firewall programs? If so, try to temporarily disable them and see if that helps.

Yes, I have turned off the protected mode. This has not helped. I can use the internet, only get messages when I am trying to access certain pages or download certain things?
