BleepingComputer.com: ? About Config On A Router Firewall

Hi I have a Westell router shared by me & GF. When I logged in to change firewall setting from allow all traffic to medium security she wasn't able to access Pogo to play her games. I am hardwired to router using Windows & she is wireless using Vista. Can Port forwarding config alleviate this & how do I do this? I was able to surf with no probs. Why wouldn't it allow Pogo access?

What firewall are you using?

Garmanma............I think I have the fix? Just have not tried it yet. This is an answer I received from eBay puter board. Do you agree with the fix?


From my times here lately working with router settings I found that some programs and or devices are blocked by the firewall and there is nothing you can do about that.

However the routers I've used so far have provided the "DMZ" for just that reason, problem is for it to work you have to put the whole computer in it to use the one program that is blocked. IE: assigning that computer a static address, and then putting it in the Demilitarized Zone to get around the firewall.

I don't see how port forwarding would help, or work for that, might help if I knew what Pogo was but I doubt that would change anything.

Do you use a software firewall along with the hardware firewall?

If not I'd use a software firewall on that computer and then try it and see if it works.



Ok then if your router offers a DMZ put that computer, the one running Pogo in it and see if it works with the firewall set to medium security.

No need to set its address to static until you're sure it works and want to make sure it stays that way.

Otherwise a restart or reboot of the router may change its address (providing you use DHCP), if so you'd have to make a corresponding change to the address entered in the DMZ each time that happen. Setting that one computer to static would keep that from happening.

I use an old router and Zone Alarm.
I'm not familiar with Pogo Games' site. I'm browsing through it now
