We are experience a number of problems with the pc (win xp home sp2). Constant pop up "Windows Security Alert" saying we're infected by Trojan-Spy.Win32 etc etc Clicking on links in a web browser is bringing up pages saying we have virus infections and so on - lots of variations on the the theme, although the first one mentioned has been a constant. I have followed a proceedure from majorgeeks.com: ran cc cleaner ran super antispyware ran spybot search and destry ran malwarebyte's anit malware ran combofix ran mgtools The interesting part is that I thought I was making headway with super antispyware, and then spybot found a few more nasties such as smitfraud. But spybot failed to remove a registry key that was in use despite running at boot time. So it seems like there is still a back door open just inviting a whole new range of nasties in. Obviously your help is going to be hugely appreciated. I hope I have not broken any rules and look forward to a reply. Cheers, David. |

Hey Boopme - thanks for your reply.
I'm going to insert the various logs below. I have pasted only combo fix and Hijack this logs. I tried posting others but the message became too long. Before that though, I have since left the network plug out and ran some of the programs again. Super AntiSpyWare found a bunch of stuff. Then Spybot found a few things as well - the one thing it can't remove despite scanning on reboot is Fraud.XPAantivirus MalwareBytes found nothing on its scan subsequent to Spybot. The following logs were created before the steps just mentioned. Thanks in advance. -David. ComboFix logs should not to be posted outside the HijackThis forums and then only when requested by a HJT Team member. It is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis and probably missed the directions we provide to those who require assistance. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice, whether well meaning or not. Prior to posting a HJT log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system. Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you have performed some of them already, then just continue with the next. If you can't perform a step, then skip it and continue with the next. The last step will include downloading and using the most current version of HijackThis if the first line of your log does not appear as follows: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Please note that it is important that HijackThis be run and a log created while in normal mode. If you run it and create your log while in safe mode, you will be asked to redo it again properly. When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Guide to post a new log. Please DO NOT post any more logs to this topic, or post a log again in the wrong forum. This Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. If you have a question or encounter a problem in the Prep Guide, please do post back to this topic; that is what it is here for. When your new HJT log is posted in the proper forum, please reply to this topic with a link to your new topic. Once that is done, a Member of the HJT Team will analyze your log and assist you with step by step instructions to clean your computer or otherwise advise what needs to be done. You may also include a copy of the ComboFix scan results but do not use it again unless advised. Thanks for your cooperation and good luck. Crikey - I messed up the request for logs - apologies for mucking up.
I will post Superantispyware and Malwarebytes' logs shortly. BUT... am I now on the outer for not following protocol? Would like to know if I have not irreversibly lost my chances for receiving help. Thanks, -David. |

No problem, David_D_Aus.
It's to be expected, that a new member will make a few mistakes. No big deal. It takes a little time, to get used to the way a new message board works. Please carefully follow all directions that are posted above. By following these instructions, it will ensure, that your HJT log is taken care of, in the most timely manner. -------------------- ![]() Join Bleeping Computers Folding@home Team and Help find a cure. Hi David_D_Aus,
This Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. I moved your HijackThis log to the appropriate forum. Here is the link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...mp;#entry937927 Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make may cause confusion for the member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working on logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond If after 5 days you still have received no response, then post a link to your HJT log in the thread titled "Haven't Had A Reply In Five Days?". To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
