 Hi everyone, This is my query, I have just re-installed Windows Xp Pro ( service Pack 2 ) on my computer which is now running on Pentium Core 2Duo with 2 gig of DDR 2 ram on an 80 gig sata drive. Fine , no problem there whatsover. Recently however, when you come to log off and are just about to shut the computer down, if you decide for instance you have forgotten to do something, when you click on your log on icon which will then show the dialogue box for the insertion of my password, the curser fails to blink in the blank space, preventing you from typing in your password............. the only cure todate that I have found for this, is to do a restart and then the curser reappears and I can type in my password. I have never come across this before. If I remove my password through the user account facility,obviously this problem does not exsist. Other then this glitch, both my keyboard and mouse work normally without any other abnormalities. Any suggestions as to why this error occures and any cures would be appreciated. How often do you see this?
I've seen this on some of our work computers, we use the Ctrl-Alt-Del login screen, and by default when the computers go idle for long enough the screen goes into the locked state, meaning you need to enter username/password to unlock it. Every now and again the username/pass. fields will be greyed out and the only thing to do is reboot. --------------------  |

This presumes that there's no malware interfering with the logon. If you're unsure, I'd suggest a free, online scan (http://housecall.trendmicro.com ) in order to rule it out.
I'd suggest trying to run "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes) from the Run dialog. It'll ask for your XP CD if it needs it, so have it ready.
