Dvd/cd Disc Drive Not Recogonized cd/dvd drive is not listed in my computer

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 (model 2199US) I have a DVD/CD Drive/Burner combo installed. If I insert a disc,
I can here the drive try and access the disc. Then it stops and..nothing. When I go my computer to check on the status,
the only drive listed is my C: drive. It's like it doesn't even exist. I've tried to install a new driver, but I get an error that
says "no device installed". How did I get my laptop to even realize that it is there?

Two months and thirty pages of print from the Microsoft help site did nothing. In less than five minutes, I have my CD and DVD drives back! Thank you.
