Avg Not Updating Connection Fail

Hi there, im having trouble to update my anti-virus AVG (version 8). It hasnt happened before but suddenly it keeps giving me this error:

My internet connection is fine, i tried many times but still the same outcome?

What should i do next?

Im running on windows XP, service pack 2

avg today couldn't update but it was fine yesterday and there were 2 updates i could do one was fine but the other had the message

the connection with update server has failed
I hear a boy only has a certain amount of tears one day the pain and dissapointment happen so often the pain dissapers and the boy becomes a man

same thing here
6 diferent systems on three diferent networks all having the same issues
one network has 10 systems on it and 3 of them will not update except for offline updates.
the offline update fixed 2 ( originally 5 out of 10 would not update online)
one of the systems which will not update is a fresh OS load

Usually when you cannot connect to the server, it is either temporarily down or its usage is at capacity. Wait a bit, and see if you can establish a connection. Let us know if the problem persists.

Auto-update fails to connect on me occasionally. I simply retry and it works

I seem to have troubles with it also. I recall reading about this over 2 weeks ago+thought the problem had corrected itself. Apparently not.
I did go to the AVG forum(website) but it's all too tech speak for my understanding.
Hopefully someone here at BC can explain it in "novice" terms?

Something to do with an update manager kernel,whatever that is. For the past few days I have to manually update from the AVG control center. This happens each time I power on my system. Today it even gave me that warning icon while the computer was on, but I wasn't even using it.

Thanks for any input offered.

it seems only to fail on this one update so should i wait and see

I'm having the problem as well but I believe it is their Server, just wait till Tomorrow and try again. They might just happen to be carrying out Server Maintenance.

For what it is worth, I found the following stock reply from Grisoft's forums about the server/update problem:

"The new long awaited program update v8.0.169 was just released... See [freeforum.avg.com] so the update servers are probably going to be overloaded until most of the users finally get updated to this version! Just please be patient and all will soon calm down."

When I was searching that forum yesterday,I couldn't find a thing about this. Mine seems to be acting just fine tonight, so as you said, it was a case of overload.
