I installed SP1a about 8 months ago, only to be disconnected from internet and my friend who was helping me on messenger was gone. I was left in frustrating needing technical help. Im telling you this because there were steps left out which I wasn't aware of at the time. 1. Such as, my system has to cleared of ALL viruses and trojans.True? 2. After the installation my modem had to be disconnected and reset. True? 3. There are patches to download before preceeding. True? 4. Since I havent updated in a long time, I need to update? True? Is it true all I need to do is Install SP1 or 2 and theres nothing else to setup? Looking for your patience & support, Lyn |

Quite honestly, you should be able to connect/download/install sp2 immediately without doing anything else. Then after sp2 is installed, you should run windows update again

Hi Grinler,
I forgot a small detail. My Windows Update does not work. I saw someone else had this problem and you listed four files to check for on my sysytem. All are there except [B] wuaucpl.cpl.manifest. I checked n Google for missing file and in Microsoft. Microsoft seems lacking in help in replacing missing files. I even tried your Update.bat program but it did't help. My problem is when I go to Microsoft updates, the page say this may take a moment when really it can stay there forever without any errors. In the left column, "Install Updates is dimmed out" along with "View History Installations". Happy to hear from you Lyn |

Download this file:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en and save it to your desktop. Then install it from that file. And then see if windowsupdate works when its done. This iwll take a while to download if using a dialup -------------------- Lawrence
