Or should I just try an alternative, such as backing up the Windows 2000 and installing Linux over it? This post has been edited by trashcan7: Aug 26 2008, 03:18 PM |

Which flavor of Linux? Ubuntu is pretty painless to install as a dual-boot. I should note that if you go back to W2k, you will need the CD to run fix/mbr.
After you decide which version to try, you can go to their support site and read the FAQ's and their support forums. Our own LInux forum is also a good place to start. http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/ http://www.linuxquestions.org/ -------------------- Mark

I recommend you take a look at Wubi. It will install Ubuntu much
like any other program installs. No need to partition. http://wubi-installer.org/ Step by step install guide: http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php#use -------------------- |

No that is not normal. Wubi does not need to partition anything.
Just a guess here...did you download the Ubuntu ISO and if so is it in the Wubi folder? -------------------- |

My best guess is the ISO you downloaded is not the right one.
Delete the ISO from the wubi folder and run wubi again. From the wubi page: QUOTE It is recommended to let Wubi download the ISO for you.
