New Vista Computer No Sound

Well ive brought a new Vista computer and i cant get no sound, i got headfones i got some sound out of them, but i cant get no sound from my monitar, i asked in PC world today and they said 'It might have a built in sound thing, the computer has all the drivers all up to date its not on mute ive checked the buttons on the monitar and all the sounds are turned up to max.

Anyone please help.

EDIT - I had it fixed, but now i restarted ive got no sound again.

Click on the control panel, then 'Sound'. Do you see a green circle with a white check mark next to a playback device? If you do, what is it?

Do you mean the speakers are built into the monitor?
You still need to have a separate wire run from the sound jack on the computer to a jack on the back of the monitor

Its ticked on 'Speakers'

Mine is ticked on speakers too, but I have external speakers. What are the other choices?
