The simplest route, although not cheap, so that the MAC and PC can access the internet independently would be to have a router and 2 straight through (patch) CAT5 cables, or you could go the wireless route

Putasolutions answer is what I did a while ago. If you don't want to spend the money you can try a lan. First pick the computer you use the most, and run the network wizard. Then run it on the other one. A little inconvenient, but cheaper. One note. I have never set up a lan with 2 different os's. Anyone out there with info?
