O blimey, my dad has messed up his laptop - opened an attachment with a virus.
Although I think I have removed it, we are unable to boot windows XP to desktop.
Have run chkdsk, and it has found errors it cannot mend..can't boot in safe mode either

is there anything I can do

If chkdsk is finding errors that it can't fix - then it could be a problem with the hard drive. I'd suggest downloading a bootable diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of your hard drive.
