BleepingComputer.com: Windows Update Tries To Update The Same Files Over And Over And Over...

My windows update in my windowsw vista home premium SP1 tries to install the same updates over and over and over... and I'm caught in a never-ending loop of reinstall - reboot - reinstall - reboot...
So I turn automatic update all the way off.
Anyone have experience with this issue??

It's not uncommon. It would help if you could give the update KB# and also the specific error message, if any.

Hopefully this will be enough information to work with, but these error codes can be somewhat vague at times (if they are even available), in which case you might have to look a little deeper. For more detailed in formation, your computer keeps a log of all update info. You can see it by doing the following:

Click Start -> Run
Then type %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log and hit enter

You might want to have a look at the event logs too.

Unfortunately, there are no error codes, since the computer seems to be completely unaware of "what the left hand is doing" - and seems oblivious that the same update has been installed multiple times... and all the installs do show up in the Windows Update's "view installed updates" area...
I guess not one else is having the problem, or it isn't a priority at microsoft ?!

Which specific update is it?

Currently 3 of them already show as successful installs:
Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB951546)
Seurity Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951596)
Security Update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 (KB951338)

and repeated "FAILED", with a code 645, is:
Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109)

but keep in mind: at least 25% of the time my updates show as successfully installed, and try to reinstall upon restart... and I just "hide" the updates and shut off the automatic update off so I don't need to deal with constant reminders that I "need" to update something I already have.
This has been going on regularly since I bought the computer last fall.
