Alright, I just did a reformatting and reinstallation, but did something stupid. I was trying to solve THIS problem, without really reading the solution that was given. I went to Start>Run>CONTROL FOLDERS>File Types and when I didn't see EXE extension, I created one. Then, when I realized I couldn't really do anything with it, I deleted it. Now when I try and execute most of my programs (Including Internet Explorer), I get a dialog box asking me what program I want to open the .exe file with. I can't do a system restore, because that involves opening an exe as well. I REALLY don't want to reformat again, but I will if it's the only way.

Please, does anybody know how to remind Windows how to run .exe files without using an .exe file myself?

EDIT:By the way, I can open some programs, like Firefox and Notepad. I don't know why some of them open, but if they are required for a solution, I can use them.

Well, typical John. I typed this up in a panic, and found the problem 5 minutes after posting. THIS nice article fixed me up just right.
