For the past few days when starting up my computer it seems to start up with - performing automatic IDE confirguration - which takes around 1 mins (havent noticed this configuration before) then it loads the drives and then says - time of day not set - please run setup program Alert! System battery voltage is low. strike F1 to continue f2 to run setup I hit F2 but didnt have a clue what to look for so have been just pressing F1 over the past few days. anyone know why this has happened, it was fine at the weekend. The computer is around 4 or 5 years old and just seems to be playing up all the time, I will be getting a new one probably begining of next year but can something be done in the mean time re above. thanks |

Don't forget to unplug the computer from the wall and let it sit for a while before touching the motherboard. And, if it's dusty inside there, don't use a vacuum cleaner to clean it out (that'll generate static electricity which can damage the components inside of the case. Thanks, i'll have a look at the link.
I take it that this is why the clock on the system tray resets its self to 00:00 and changed the date back to 2003 every time its switched on?? This post has been edited by dragon18007: Aug 20 2008, 05:59 PM |

That's most likely the reason. When the power is shut off, that battery retains the charge in the CMOS which holds that information. If the battery is dead the most obvious problem will be the date/time being set back to the time the BIOS was developed.
