Try the fix at Kelly's Korner.
Restore Desktop and Screensaver Tabs - #128 on the right. Right click on it and save the .reg file to your desktop. Then, double click on the file icon (on your desktop) to merge it into your registry. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect. With any fix like this you should create a new restore point and backup the registry first. For backing up the registry I like to use ERUNT. -------------------- Stupidity has a knack of getting its way.

Hi all. I got infected by Antivirus2009 as well. it s really annoying. I dont think I can get rid of it myself, so Im planning to
take my comp to a store to do it. But before knowing it was a virus, I sent an email to Antivirus2009 customer support, and I got a reply. Does this mean these guys with the virus are currently active trying to make money out of it? If you report it as a cyber crime to FBI, would they do anything to track down these guys and arrest them? just a thought. "Dear Customer,You should buy our product - Antivirus 2009 to protect your PC from viruses, adware. etc.To be able to remove all threats activate Antivirus 2009, please. If you have a problem feel free to contact us. If you gave them money with a credit card, dispute the charge with your credit card company.
If it's just an email - block them from your email and don't be surprised if you get deluged with SPAM or even with emails containing viruses. You can report it to the FBI, but if they're from outside of the country the FBI will have to coordinate with them (if they're willing) to get anything done. -------------------- - John

thank you.
Didnt cost me money but read somerewhere here that somebody lost money, so thought about it, and just filed a complaint to the FBI few hours ago. dunno if it s a big enough issue for them but did it anyways. and I just got rid of it for free. took me three hours but didnt have to take it to a store so was good. If this helps any: 1. I installed "superantispyware" install it, set it, and update it, then cut the internet connection, and choose "perform complete scan" after this is done, you can use search engines and such but still has the spyware active somewhat showing popups. 2. then reconnect it, go to a site that scans and gets rid of the malware for free ( what I used was not in English so, search for the best in your language) after this is done, you probably dont have the spyware anymore even though you would see an icon of Antivirus2009 still. 3. go to something like "Kaspersky" and check again to see if it`s all cleaned up. My computer s running fine now but I still see a warning thing from a "security center" of Windows which I can not get rid. This is the email I got a reply from if you wanna file a complaint to the FBI or if wanna mess these hackers up somehow: Support1 (support@antivirus-2009pro.com) Re: Antivirus 2009 product inquiry Now, I can go to sleep. |

AH, my bad. this is the email of the scammers using the spyware. When I got infected, wrote to the "customer support" thinking they might be really selling a anti spyware, and sent me a reply a day later. I pasted what they wrote to me in my first post in this thread. Use it as an evidence to file a complaint as a cyber crime or , use it if you know how to mess them up without infecting yourself. that s what I meant. sorry. |
