How did you delete the devices? Can the system boot into normal mode? The event viewer may give some more information. 1. Click Start select run 2. Type eventvwr.exe 3. Press enter 4. Search through the groups for errors and warnings. 5. Double click on each error and or warning. 6. Locate the copy to clipboard button, (under the two arrows) 7. Let us know what you find. There are about 100 warnings just in the application section and 11 errors. Do you want me to paste all of them? The system section has at least 100 errors. Are there any errors I should be looking for?

It is difficult to say what to look for as some problems have many causes.

Sorry about the delay,
Those errors unfortunately don't say what is causing the sound. However they do give some clues to other problems that may have affected the sound. The System File Checker may be able to help. http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html 1. Click Start 2. Then run. 3. Type sfc /scannow 4. Press enter. 5. Follow the prompts The SFC works by checking Windows system files and replacing the damaged files. Some devices may not be working correctly, check the Device Manager. 1. Click Start then run 2. Type devmgmt.msc and press enter 3. Look through the list for yellow or red marks next to the entries. 4. Let us know what you find. Also there was an error about SP3 failing to install. the scan worked and I didn't have any dialog boxes appear. I checked the devmgmt and found no yellow or red marks. The only two devices under the sound, video, and game controller option are my logitech mic and the realtek high definition audio device. Is that all I should have. The SP3 update failed the first time but worked the second. I do believe windows update works because I installed hundreds of updates after the recovery. I haven't restarted the computer but the sound still doesn't work.
