New Member Group: Members Posts: 8 Joined: 12-August 08 Member No.: 229,392	Okay so basically, im a first time builder and im new to the hardware thing and im horrible at diagnosing things. However when this problem occured i consulted a computer engineer who's been at it for many years and 2 different college students who are getting degrees in computer somethin or other and none of these folks know what the problem is. It locks up in anything, IE, WoW, Bioshock, Fable, etc. however it locks up more frequently in the programs that require more resources. Like when i play bioshock, it freezes up in 2 min - 10 min and never lasts and longer than 10. WoW sometimes locks up really quickly but ive played for 10 hours before without an issue. Also it has frozen up a few times just booting up. And when i say lock-up, i mean that my screen freezes, the sound file that was playing skips repeatedly, the mouse wont move and the keyboard wont work. The event ID indicates that the computer crashed and was restarted. This could be down to faulty hardware. http://www.hdtune.com/ disk checking tool perform error scan http://www.memtest.org/ memory testing tool. I was playing world of warcraft and it just locked up. Sorry =/ I'll look and make sure the vid card and the ram and the wireless card are seated properly sure. If i take them out and put them back in will that hurt anything and/or will i need to reinstall anything? And ill run those programs too. Thanks for the help Edit: Just realized that the hd scan thing doesnt list vista 64 as one of the systems it checks. Can i still run it or would it be futile? Edit: Wow, um, im horrible with computers. I cant figure out which thing im supposed to download for memtest....can you give slightly more specific instructions? Sorry... Did the computer shut down on it's own, or did you force it to shut down by pressing the power button? If it's the latter, check the Application log in Event Viewer for errors around that same time. Just FYI - there were compatibility problems with WOW and Vista when it first came out. Dunno if this may be the case for x64 bit versions tho'. Also, there were some issues with RAM and the 790i chipset when it first came out - I'd check with the manufacturer of your motherboard to see if it affects your particular model. HDTune seems to work on my Vista x64 system - but I prefer the test that's usually available from the manufacturer of your hard drive. I'd do the memory test and the hard drive test first. Then I'd remove enough RAM to get you down to 2 gB and see if it still locks up (that's the test for the 790i lockups as I recall). -------------------- - John If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. Yea, i had to push the button on my case (not the one that you hold in to shut it down but the one you just push and it reboots). Everything locked up so i couldnt do anything, was forced to push that. As far as the application thing, I don't have that. Under event viewer all i have is Critical (which there are none), Error, Warning, Information, Audit Success, and Audit Failure. And the only application thing under error is from when WoW shuts itself down and it is like um, we had a file issue, tell us what you were doing! And yes, i have also heard that there are compatibility issues, one such issue is that sometimes when you click "exit" you get a blue screen shut down that says something to the effect of video memory failure. Ive only gotten that once in the whole month ive had this thing going and i read on a forum that apparently that just happens. But like i said this happens running anything and even when booting up soz its not just wow i dont think. Actually I think it does, the lock-up thing. Because there were a couple of people who said they had lock up issues with this board. I think that's what i have and i'm trying to figure out how to make it stop, but like i said im not sure yet, seeing as how im not tech savvy quite yet. Okay ima go try the memtest and see if can find the drive test from the manufacturer. if i cant find it ill just use the hd tune thingy. So if i remove one of my sticks and i still lock up what does that mean? and what should i do about it?
