I know it's just a 3D pinball game but it's beautifully programmed with brilliant level designs and cool minigames and the premise that you are defending the "table" from marauding UFOs is set off nicely with the slightly crazed voiceovers. It's playable, fun and addictive.
All the things that real pinball is not.

Final Fantasy II (US = IV in Japan) on the SNES

for current consoles though... i would have to say Halo 3 for multiplayer and army of 2 for single player. both games r for x360.
