Okay, So I am pretty new at all of this but here is my issue: I have been using a Cintre Z Disc External Hard Drive for the last year. However, I recently took it out of my laptop and put it on my desktop and now I can't get it recognized on either machine. On my laptop it just keeps saying device unknown and I tried to update the driver and went through all of the troubleshooting things suggested on windows, to no avail. Now, when I plug it into my desktop which I am running Vista on, it says Code 10 - device cannot start and in the device manager it has mass usb storage device with the big yellow exclamation point. I have tried to find a new driver for it but haven't had any luck so far. As I said I'm not the most computer literate person so I have just about had it and have no idea what I should be looking at...any suggestions out there as to what I could try?

Thanks so much in advance! hysterical.gif

What is the exact model of your drive?

A driver came with it (from what I see). That driver must be installed on each system, if you want to connect the device properly.

http://www.directron.com/ci330u2.html

From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123:

Code 10

If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Recommended resolution: Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

For more information about Code 10-related errors , click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 943104 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/) Description of Code 10-related errors that Device Manager generates on Windows XP-based computers.
