Hi: I build AMD 64 Duo-Core Platforms. I built a 4200+ CPU w/Seagate 320GIG HD, 2GIGS Corsair 800mhz RAM, MSI Micro-Star International Mainboard. XION 450 watt PS and Case w/ green LED, I just used my old cd/dvd rom drive. The OS is your biggest Question, that you must decide. My onboard sound card is Realtek ALC 888, I use it line in to my HT, Home Theater is Insignia 500 watt. Sounds great with Foobar 2000 and ASIO4free driver. Cost $421.01 audioAl over an out.

Well to me, I think you can get a pretty good system between $1000 - $1500 dollars.

$1000 to $1500 is a good price range for a home PC. Gaming with all the nice visuals on would require a higher budget, especially if you're playing recent games. As for Vista, I say go for it. Many of the earlier problems have been worked out. If you later decide you don't want Vista, you can always try Linux.

Great advise, I have XP and I downloaded "Hardy Heron" Linux to learn. Have a nice day!
