I recently bought some more memory, checked using Belarc which stated i had 3 slots with 1 slot having 512mb.
I bought 2 modules but when i opened the case there is only 2 slots????
Checked using Belarc and again it shows the following
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'A0' has 512 MB
Slot 'A1' has 512 MB
Slot 'A2' is Empty
Where is slot A2???? I cannot see it anywhere on the motherboard

Would you please post the make and model of your computer?
If this is a custom build, would you please post the make and model of the motherboard?

Your motherboard has two expansion slots with a maximum of 1024MB of RAM per slot.
The motherboard will support DDR PC2100 and PC2700.
This motherboard doesn't support dual channel.

Belarc has a tendency to misread certain things. It is not 100% reliable.

why won't my laptop work?
Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Your motherboard has 2 RAM slots and 1 BUILT-IN memory bank option, which was not used by your motherboard manufactuter. There are this kind of motherboards, in which you dont have to put external memory (though you can if you wish), the memory is soldered on the motherboard like other chips. It cannot be removed. But since, this makes motherboard inflexible with users, the motherboard manufacturers usually leave this memory bank blank.
You simply cannot use this slot, though it exists. Maybe you can read its markings on your motherboard like DDR and and see the left out space.
Belarc is right my friend, your motherboard has 3 RAM slots
