my pc got infected with a virus and one of the files got corrupted. it says that you can attempt to repair this file if you insert the cd.

my problem is that i lost my cd.

so i purchased a new windows installer.

the problem is that how am i going to format my computer when i cannot log in at my desktop. it keeps on powering on and on..

how to reformat my pc and how am i going to installer my software?

You need to have a CD or DVD that has the operating system on it. Once you reformat the drive, you will reinstall Windows with that CD. It might be easier to repair the corrupted file. Which file became corrupted?

If you want to format and reinstall Windows insert your CD into the CD drive and reboot the computer. It should boot straight into the Windows installation.

Yes, the previous installation will be replaced.

At the appropriate stage of the installation choose to delete the partition by pressing "D". You will then be prompted to create a new partition in the empty space. This will remove all data from the deleted space.

This is explained in more detail in the link I provided in my previous post (which assumes you want to install Windows XP).
