Can't Back Up Computer Shadow copy could not be created

Hello,

I bought an HP 6000t last year and so far, Vista is driving me nuts. I know, I know, I need to get use to it but darn it, there is alot of tinkering in the registry file just to get the "low disk space" notification to shut up. Yes, I did this successfully but when I restarted the computer, it came back.

Now I can't back it up? In fact, I have never been able to... It tells me a shadow copy couldn't be created because there isn't enough storage to create a shadow copy or other shadow copy.

I have looked around on forums and I didn't find much except for some information saying that this is a problem with Vista sometimes and that I need to reinstall it. Uh no.

So far I spend more time on forums reading about Vista rather than enjoying my computer. That said, any advice on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. :huh:

How much free space is on your hard drive(s)? Go to Computer and right click on each drive. Select Properties and it'll tell you there.

On my C drive I have 34 GB free out of 68.2 GB

And on my D Drive I have 18.2 MB free of 6.25 GB

Are you trying to backup to the D: drive? If so, there's not enough room there.
If not, what are you trying to backup to? Are you sure that there's enough storage space available to store it there?
My copy won't let me backup files to the C: drive - could this be the case?

Yes, I am trying to back up to the D drive. When it prompts me, I just tell it to back up applications such as pictures and applications, not all the other stuff like videos, email, etc. It gets almost to the end and then I get the error message.

The D drive is pretty much full and I would like to delete what ever is on that and start a fresh back up, would that be ok? Or do I have to use CD's (who knows how many) to back up my C drive?

Your "D" drive is HP's recovery drive. It's meant to be left alone and not used for backups. You can back up your Documents and pictures to a CD-RW or DVD-RW. Very handy to have if you ever have to re-install Vista! Applications that you downloaded, should be in your "Downloads" or Documents (which ever folder you default download is). You can't back up programs, but you can backup the installer, such as Posted Image
