DO NOT post a ComboFix log unless requested to.


Only members of the HijackThis Team or Moderators are allowed to help people with logs. Anyone else should refrain from posting to another user's log.


When posting a log please put the type of infection you have in the topic title. IE: Winfixer, Virtumonde, WinTools, WebSearch, Home Search Assistant, etc.


Do not bump your topic. We try to resolve logs on a first come/first served basis. By bumping your log you will be pushed back in line due to the new date of your bump.

High five Pieter, thank you for your assistance!

Explorer still hangs, but I think that's probably a function of the computer.

Could you provide any insight on why this deepdive stuff is bad (aside from opening an annoying explorer window?). Thanks! A little bit of googling looks like it's not really a harmful thing.

I have examined a file called helper.sig before which looked like a log file (encrypted)
so I suspect this is spyware gathering data about surfing habits.
Since I was unable to un-encrypt it I'm not sure what excatly they were looking for.
If it had been a keylogger the alarms would have been set much higher.
Now McAfee says it's not a trojan or a virus.
That leaves spyware and advertising-ware.
But since we don't know where it hails from and it causes problems it is good riddance.
