Well I performed the double change of depth settings and I got the following features:

1.- Desk icons and bar "windows" cured.-
2.- It passed by a funny "chapter" of the lower half of the screen in black, that got fixed once I "installed" again the landscape I have just moving the mouse from one to the other.-
3.- Half of the few start program's icons that appears inmediately above the word "start" at clicking on it, got inespecific; I mean lost the individual coloured shields, that were replaced by the typical small square.-

In summary it was a good advice, because the desk icons configuration and the task bar are actually normal and then the starting is more auspicious.

Many thanks and friendly regards

Assuming your XP is at least Service Pack 2 (as it should be for security and ability to update), try this: change your colour depth (eg 32 bit to 16 bit, apply, then back to 32 bit, apply) and see if that makes any difference.

If you're uncertain of the procedure, right click on desktop to get display Properties, in Settings change Color Quality to an alternative, then back again.

This may or may not help, but it causes Windows to rebuild the Shell Icon Cache, and can correct slow icon loading and corruption.

I'm glad you've had some success.

For any of the Start menu items that have lost contact with their icon, if you right-click on each and select properties, then the Change Icon button, you can make sure it is looking in the correct program file for the icon. If not, you can browse to select the appropriate .exe file to match the application.

Pleased to have been a Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) 2007/8, 2008/9

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...
