Hi,

I'm selling my old laptop to my friend, and looking for a new one. For the past few days I've been looking for one. I have found this Acer laptop @ Amazon.co.uk: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Extensa-7620G...5109&sr=8-1 for £445=$900. I have found another site selling at £400 but it is an unfamiliar one- I am not sure if I can trust them... Considering the laptop specification, it looks like it is at a nice price, but I don't know. Was looking for a second/third++ opinion.

P.S. How about compared with this: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quick...4WL#description

Thanks.

what are you specifically looking for, and what price range? Is that up there pretty much what you want? Something intel core 2 duo, and vista?

That's pretty much what I'm looking for. Main: Intel Core 2 Duo, Vista Home Premium, at least 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD. Would prefer Widescreen, 17" or at least 15.4". It would be nice if it had an integrated camera. I'm not that bothered with the weight because I'll not be on the move all the time.

I'm on a tight budget which is around the cost of this laptop.

What is meant by the initials in bold: DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM? I don't understand what DVD-RAM does either? If anyone could please enlighten me...

I'm feeling really attracted to this laptop! And Amazon tells me there's only 3 left in stock! I need to hurry up unless there is a better offer elsewhere.

Thanks again for any thoughts.

There are three different types of rewritable media, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM. The DL means Dual Layer.

Thanks dc3 for that. What do you think about the laptop specification at its current price? Am I getting a good deal? I feel like going for it...

I hate to admit it, but I haven't had enough interest in purchasing a laptop to even know what a good deal is. But I'm sure that there are those here that are and will be more than glad to share their knowledge. thumbup2.gif

The Acer at Amazon looks like a nice little lap top. I would not recomend any laptop for gaming if that's what you have in mind. I bought an Acer laptop a little over 3 years ago and it's still going strong. I upgraded the ram to help it run faster, and the battery lasts maybe an hour. I don't know if the batteries today are any better. I usually run mine plugged in anyway... blink.gif

I was looking at fatwallet and retailmenot for a good deal, but I ended up getting my hp from hp.com because all the manufacturers have deals on their sites. I use hp because thats what I wanted, but I looked at toshiba and sony and they had some sales on theirs. I got it for $800.

I rarely play games on PC/Laptop... The laptop looks good to me and the price looks fair if not in my favour. I'll probably go for it in the next day or so before it disappears off the shelf.

Thanks garmanma for that link to the ratings. I didn't know that's how they rate...
