Greetings rolltide101,
I have a solution that should work, provided that windows is managing your wireless card, which is likely in Vista. If you have other Software controlling your card, please right click it down in the system tray, and click Disable or Exit as appropriate. Some examples of third party wireless software are, Intel ProWireless or Broadcom wireless control utility. Once those are disabled, Please do the following: start:programs:accessories {User Action} Right Click on the Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator When running in Windows Vista, you will be prompted to continue. Click Continue. Please press continue after any prompts you receive. Don't be intimidated by anything you see here, simply follow along and ask questions if you have them. You are now running the command line as the administrator. You Should see the following C:\Windows\System32> if not, please type CODE cd C:\Windows\System32> [press enter]now the prompt should read C:\Windows\System32> type the following exactly as it appears, but replace \\YourComputerName with the name of your computer of course Remember to use the double slash before your computer name, Hit Enter after typing the whole line. CODE sc \\YourComputerName config wlansvc start= auto The output should read: CODE [SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS Next, type the following: CODE sc start wlansvc hit enter. Output should Read: CODE SERVICE_NAME: wlansvc TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS STATE : 2 START_PENDING (NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN) WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) CHECKPOINT : 0x0 WAIT_HINT : 0x7d0 PID : 1040 FLAGS : Your Wireless auto config service should now be started and you should start seeing networks. If not, you may have a hardware issue. If that doesn't work, and you still don't see any networks and see the Greyed out screen, You may have a Hardware problem with the Wireless card, or a missing driver (No Driver installed/or it's disabled) Find your My computer icon and Right Click it. Choose Properties, and in the upper left hand corner of the screen click on Device Manager. From there, expand the Networking tab, and look for your wireless card. If you see a Down Arrow, it may be disabled. Right click and Enable it. If you see devices that aren't very descriptive, you may need to download the drivers for your Card from the manufacturer's web site. Finally, Sometimes you have a wireless switch or key combination that enables and disables your wireless card. Make sure that it is enabled as you may still see the wireless icon even if it's disabled. This post has been edited by RandomUser: Aug 1 2008, 10:13 PM |

Would I be correct in assuming that it's working?
