You will need to insert the drive before you boot up, and then there should be a small box at the bottom right (on mine) where you can cycle through the drives , when I used a usb on DSL it was sda4(I think) click on the mount button and "Bobs your uncle"
Any special reason why are you running 2.4 ? I would move up to 3.1(or the last stable 3.x version) at least (although you're still stuck with Firefox 1.0
), it was the last ver. I used with any regularity . The 4.x series looks good but gave me more problems than I wanted as it was more Alpha than Beta , plus I didn't care for JWM , and when switching to Fluxbox, it just made things worse. 3.1 was easier to use and naturally more stable than the 4.x's. Not really sure if I'd call DSL a beginner distro or not as it can be kinda cantankerous at times ;)

OK
,thanks , insert drive before boot, and then go though box select sda4, then mount . I asume unmount is not a mystery also
. OK I will give it a try some time later .I thought 2.4 was the current one . No ? I will look again . You are right it isn't easy to pick up although It is a very nice os
, but like you say it can be somewhat difficult for new users . Puppy 3.01 was much easier for new users . It will take a long time to just gain its general use mechanisms ! I am glad I have a bootable copy of DSL nevertheless
. Later !

Hda(1,5 etc.) is the hard drive, Fd0 is the floppy, Sda(1,4,etc.) is the optical and flash drives.
Lots of good info at http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
I Haven't used DSL for over a year now. most of my use was "live only" with 2.2 - 3.1

You're so very welcome !
never tried to remaster DSL , but IIRC there is that option in the menu somewhere. I always used a floppy for settings. Unless you install it there is no reason why it should ever even touch your HDD (never tried the frugal either)
Good Luck !
